Welcome to the Madison County Literacy Coalition
Did you know? In Madison County, 5,520 adults have below basic literacy skills and need literacy services.
Our challenge is to develop strategies and structures that will result in a comprehensive, coordinated, integrated, learner-centered continuum of lifelong literacy services and programs with quality standards and sufficient capacity to meet community-wide literacy needs.
Join forces with the Madison County Literacy Coalition to help improve the lives of all Madison County citizens through literacy services for all ages.
All-America City Campaign for Grade-Level Reading
The National Civic League (NCL) grants America's oldest and most prestigious community recognition award, now in its 63rd year. Each year, the All-America City Award is given to 10 communities that exemplify outstanding civic accomplishments. In 2012, NCL will focus the Award on communities that have developed the most comprehensive, realistic, and sustainable plans to increase grade-level reading proficiency by the end of third grade.
Award-winning communities will develop strategies in three areas that have real potential to drive improvments in grade-level reading:
- School readiness
- School attendance
- Summer learning
Information for coalitions about how to develop Community Solutions Action Plans was offered in two webinars.
